Ralph (Roland) Rogers

Mr. Ralph (Roland) Rogers, age 85 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Rogers was born on March 12, 1930 in Rochelle, Louisiana. He was enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. After his service in the United States Military, he worked for over 40 years as an Accounting and Office Manager for both American Creosote Works and Louisiana Pacific Corporation in Winnfield, Louisiana. Mr. Rogers was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years and during his life in Winnfield he ran a part time photography studio in his spare time, enjoying his love of photography. Roland was also a charter member of the Winnfield Kiwanis Club in 1954. Mr. Rogers was a lifelong supporter and follower of LSU athletics and regularly attended several LSU sporting events over the course of his life. After his retirement in 1996, Roland enjoyed two decades spending time with his wife, his son, his daughter, his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Joey. Roland was an active and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield, serving on numerous church committees, devoting his time and energy to help support and grow his church family. Roland was also a cancer survivor and was an active member and supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life events in the Winnfield area. He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Ralph Rogers, and his mother, Lessie Tarver Rogers. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Joy Walker Rogers, of Winnfield, La. Son Ralph William Rogers, of Winnfield, La. Daughter Rolanda Renee Rogers Harvison and husband Emery Harvison of Mesa, Arizona. Two grandchildren, Jill Catherine Harvison, and Allen Emery Harvison, also of Mesa, Arizona, one brother Larry Truman Rogers and wife Dottie Rogers of Wisner, Louisiana, One nephew, Kent Rogers of Los Angeles, California, and One niece, Rhonda Rogers Armor of Houston, Texas and several cousins. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 30th, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Winnfield. Interment followed at the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral home of Winnfield. Serving as Pallbearers were Emery Harvison, Kent Rogers, Harold Tarver, Lamar Tarver, Kevin Pharr, Chris Price, Ernie Truelove, and Bill Humphries. Honorary Pallbearers are James Tarver, Fred Davis, Clay Carpenter, Johnny Jackson, and Tom Woodard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
