Mr. JC Reed

Mr. JC Reed, age 87, of Pineville, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Reed was a former resident of Jonesboro, Louisiana, and a former member of Southside Baptist Church of Jonesboro and Hodge Baptist Church. Predeceasing him were his parents, John and Cosie Reed of Jackson Parish, and cousin, Dewey Anderson, of Jackson Parish. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willie Jean Reed of  Pineville, Louisiana, and by his three sons and their wives: Gary Wayne and Sandra Reed of Baton Rouge; Denny Lynn and Cheryl Reed of Winnfield; and Eric Jay and Kerri Reed of Alexandria. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Heather Christina Reed and Gary Wayne Reed, Jr., of Baton Rouge; Tambry Reed Slavich and husband, Sam, of Metarie; and Eric Connor Reed and Ethan Christopher Reed of Alexandria. Other family survivors include brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rev. Edward and Billie Mace Smith of Haughton and Roger and Linda Lawrence of West Monroe. He also leaves behind his beloved poodle, Trinket. Mr. Reed was born on June 29, 1927, in Jackson Parish as the only child of John Reed and Cosie Wilson Reed. He attended Weston School and was graduated in 1945. As a child and young adult, he was an active member of Springhill Baptist Church in Jackson Parish. During his years of employment, Mr. Reed held various jobs. He was the meat-market manager for various grocery stores in Jonesboro, drove trucks and hauled loads for Koppers Trucking Company, and served as a jailor for the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Department. After retiring, his wife and he moved to Pineville in 2006. Mr. Reed enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and working in the yard. He was an enthusiast at reading the Holy Bible, shared  daily devotion time with his wife, and attended church servicesand church activities on a regular basis at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Deville. Mr. Reed was a role model of a father and  grandfather, loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a man who never met a stranger. Visitation for Mr. Reed was held at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with funeral services following at Edmonds on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Edward Smith and Dr. Philip Robertson officiated the services, and pallbearers were Gary Reed, Jr., Sam Slavich, Roger Lawrence, Howard Bolton,  ruce Whitman, and Jerry Hutchinson. Graveside services and internment followed at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery on  Walker Road in Jonesboro. The family of Mr. JC Reed expresses its appreciation for the prayers, love, and support shown during this time. Special thanks are offered to Hodge Baptist Church and Philadelphia Baptist Church for the ministry shown to the family. Donations may be made to the Building Fund at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Deville, Louisiana, in memory of Mr. Reed.
