Mr. Evan Eugene Austin, Sr. died Saturday, August 23, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Austin was a loving husband,
father, grandfather and a friend to all that he met. He was an educator teaching Vocational Agriculture at Quitman High
School for many years. He served his church, Sweetwater Baptist Church as a deacon and in his younger years he served his country as an M.P in the U.S. Army. Services were held 10:00 am Monday, August 25, 2014 at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Reverend Stuart Toms and Reverend Wilton Wall officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Austin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lessie Austin;
sons, Eugene Austin and Robert Austin & wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Payton Austin and Holden Austin; brothers, Charles Austin and John Austin; sisters, Hope Weeks and Evie Sue Jones; Special niece & nephew, Darrell Peddy and Marion Falkner; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Mr Austin in death are parents, Evan Willard Austin & Rhuey Ome ‘Stewart’ Austin; sister, Lurlene Skipper; brother, James Harley Austin; brothers-in-law, Dewey D. Weeks and A.L. Shirley, Jr.; great nieces, Brandi Parker and Lori Thompson. Pallbearers were Paul Gresham, Dan Denton, Curtis Otwell, Gary Brown, Mike Brooks, Gilbert Pickens, Tom Goss, Barry Donner and Lavelle Lowe.
