Marvin Ray “Moppy” Harrell

Mr. Marvin Ray “Moppy” Harrell was born on December 26, 1924 and entered into rest on June 14, 2014. He was born and raised in Winnfield where he resided all of his life. He has had many accomplishments during his lifetime including owner of Harrell Cleaners since 1938, He served during World War II in New Guinea and was also sent to serve a lengthy career in the U.S. Army Reserve and was retired as 2nd Lt. Colonel. He was a graduate of Winnfield High School, attended NSU, and was a member of First Baptist Church, the VFW, the Democratic Committee, member and Past Master of Eastern Star Lodge #151 F& AM and Goldonna Lodge #293, Goldonna Chapter #244 OES, Woodman of the World Lodge #107. Mr. Harrell served 71 years as a volunteer for the City of Winnfield Fire Department, served on the City of Winnfield Fire Rating Committee and was a life member of the Louisiana Fireman’s Association. He also served as a Winn Parish Police Jury Member for two terms. Mr. Harrell was previously honored as Grand Marshall of the Winnfield Christmas Parade. Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Emma O’Neil Harrell, brothers, Paul, Hovey, Eli, Pat, and Jimmie, and sister, Nelda Fleniken. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn, one son, Edward Eli Harrell and wife Christy, and two sweet grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew, of which he was very proud. Marvin was blessed with a host of close friends and long years of life. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Southern Funeral Home with the Reverends Clovis Sturdivant and Brian Montgomery officiating. Interment was in Garden of Memories, Winnfield, LA. Serving the family as pallbearers were Matthew Harrell, James Sandifer, Max Smith, Wayne Moore, Hovey Lee Harrell, Dustin Parker, Charles Long and Tommy Chandler. Honorary pallbearers were Julius Mercer, Puckett Willis, Cranford Jordan, Sonny Warner. Julius Camp and Frank Easley. Online condolences may be made to the family at
