Mrs. Dorothy Iris Reed Butler

Mrs. Dorothy Iris Reed Butler age 84 of Hemphill, TX., formerly of Enterprise, LA was born on August 6, 1929 in Manito, Illinois. She went to her heavenly reward on January 25, 2014 in Hemphill, Texas. Mrs. Butler is the daughter of the late Ernest and Rachel Reed. She was also preceded in death by four sisters Zella Paris, Mary Rison, Grace Waltz, and Barbara Goehring, three brothers Ben, Dean and Gene Reed. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 66
years Crosby Butler, three children Gary Butler of Many, Louisiana, Jerry Butler of Hemphill Texas, and Judy Adams of
Tomball, Texas, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers Elmer Reed of Gresham Oregon, Donny and Irvin Reed of Spokane, Washington. Dorothy will be remembered for her loving spirit and strong personality. When she said “Don’t do that”, the children obeyed or suffered the consequences. She loved to provide for her family. Even after she no longer cooked for herself in her
last years, she would always ask her children if they wanted something to eat. Her Old Fashioned Butter Roll, Fried Pies and Chicken & Dumplings are delicious memories for her children and grandchildren. After a busy morning she enjoyed sitting in the swing on her porch and listening to gospel songs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Enterprise, La. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Billy Verhoeff officiating. Interment followed in the Springhill Cemetery near Wyatt, La. Pallbearers were Christopher Butler, Andrew Butler, Alexander Butler, Roy Lee Matthews, Buddy Clark, Russell Sison, and Brian Butler.
