William A. O’Bryan

Mr. William A. O’Bryan, age 90 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at his residence in Winnfield, Louisiana. Born Wednesday, October 31, 1923 in Calvin, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Sid O’Bryan and the late Minnie Carpenter O’Bryan. Mr. O’Bryan was retired from Collins Construction and a member of Beulah Baptist Church. He served his country from 1944 to 1946 in World War II in the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged. During that time he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Leaf and Oak Leaf Cluster (double), The Good Conduct Medal, The Presidential Unit Citation, The American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Attachment (double), World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman, Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II and the Medal of Honor. Surviving are sons, William O’Bryan of Winnfield, LA, George O’Bryan of Many, LA, Donald O’Bryan of Winnfield, LA, Ronald O’Bryan and wife Susie of Winnfield, LA, Cecil O’Bryan and wife Kathy of Tallahassee, FL and James O’Bryan and wife Carol of Winnfield, LA, daughters, Elizabeth O’Bryan of Winnfield, LA, Carol O’Bryan of Colfax, LA, Cindy Glenn and husband Larry of Winnfield, LA, Ethel Davis and husband Wayne of Winnfield, LA, Debbie LaCroix and husband Chuck of Montgomery, LA, Sybil Butler and husband Vernon of Marksville, LA and Elmena Kaufman of Grove, TX, He was predeceased in death by his daughters, LaVerne Parish and Elouise Myres, wife, Doris Hickman O’Bryan, second wife, Nel Bennett O’Bryan, great grandchildren, Dakota Armstrong and Brianna King son, Jay Bennett, brothers, Claude O’Bryan, Cecil O’Bryan, Jordan O’Bryan and Huey O’Bryan, and sister, Lucey Ables. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Southern Funeral Home with the Reverends Lamar Carpenter, Adam Thornton, and Chuck LaCroix.
