James Michael Spangler

Services for James Michael Spangler were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, at Bethlehem Baptist Church of Calvin, Louisiana, with Rev. Dick DeBusk officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Spangler was born January 28, 1949, in Winnfield, Louisiana, and died Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake Spangler and Maye Foster, and his sister, Debbie Spangler Womack. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Jackson Spangler; his sons and their wives, John Michael and Stephanie Spangler of Calhoun, Louisiana, and Todd and Gena Spangler of Winnfield; four grandchildren, Eli, Cooper, Sean Lawe, and Cadence; his brothers, Gary Spangler and Doug Spangler of Tioga, Louisiana; and four nieces and eight nephews. Mr. Spangler was a 1968 graduate of Winnfield Senior High School, where he was an outstanding athlete, and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was General Manager of Jackson Wholesale Oil and Gas until his retirement in 2005. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Gary Bates, Dylan Brunson, Jesse Carpenter, Bobby Gates, Gary Green, Steve Stroud, Tom Trawick, Jr., and Bo Walker. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class at Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Winn Rangers Baseball Team.
