WP Superintendent of Schools Al Simmons Speaks to Kiwanis

You know the Winn Parish Fair is coming to town when the Rodeo Clown visits. He showed up to Dodson High School recently to make a visit. Free tickets were given to the 2nd-4th graders. The festivities started Friday, September 29, 2023, including the Winn Parish Rodeo.

WP Superintendent of Schools Al Simmons Speaks to Kiwanis

Guest speaker for the September 26th Kiwanis club meeting was Al Simmons, Winn Parish Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Gaddis introduced him and asked him to speak about the 4-day school week and the closure of Atlanta school. Mr. Simmons said it was too early to tell how the 4 day school week was going because in August they started the longer time schedule but went 5 days a week. The 4-day week started in September. He had been nervous about the instructional time which is a minimum of 63,720 minutes but that is working out all right. What he hears around town is that most people that are affected (teachers and parents) are happy with the 4-day week.

Donations Needed for Winn Library Book Sale

The Winn Parish Library is collecting books for a second annual book sale, to be held March 7 - 9, 2019, in the Library’s meeting room. Books in good condition may be dropped off anytime during open hours through Wednesday, March 6, at the Library’s main location or at any of the branches. Donations of children’s books are especially needed.

The sale is sponsored by the newly organized Friends of the Winn Parish Library. Books covering a wide variety of subjects for all ages will sell for $1.00 per hardback and $.50 per paperback (cash only please). The group expects to host a book sale each year on the second weekend of March. “We want to make it easy for people to remember,” said Friends founder Katherine Brewton, who added that an earlier sale held last spring had inspired a small group of volunteers to organize and plan for an annual event.
