James. L. Carter, Sr.

James L. Carter, Sr., 82 of Converse Louisiana died August 6,2022. Mr. Carter was born May 31st, 1940 in Atlanta, Louisiana to Bo and Blanche (Lovett) Carter.

He is survived by his sister, Sharon Yannarella and husband Tom; brother-inlaw, Thomas Gresham; daughter, Cindy Tingle and husband Virgil; son, Jimmy Carter and wife Terri; son, Richy Carter and wife Susan; son, Scott Carter; son Jamie Carter; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in

death by his wife, Mary Carter; his father Bo Carter; his mother, Blanche Carter; sister, Betty Herrman and sister, Jo Gresham.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sardis Cemetery in Atlanta, LA with Jason Johnston and Jared Vincent officiating.

Charles Price Tomlinson

Charles Price Tomlinson Tomlinson of Austin TX, Rebecca Tomlinson of Key West FL, Patty and Bart Thomas of Lake Charles LA, James Tomlinson of Lake Orion MI, and Vicki Castagna in Boulder CO. Charles, along with Joy, his wife and partner-in-adventure, resided with Vicki in the mountains of Colorado.

Family and friends were invited to attend his Celebration of Life service at the Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield Saturday, July 30. Visitation began at noon on Saturday with the service at 2pm in the Chapel of the Southern Funeral Home with the interment following at Garden of Memories.

In Lieu of flowers, please donate in loving memory of Charles P Tomlinson to the Charles Price Tomlinson passed peacefully at home with his family on July 25, 2022 in Boulder, Colorado.

Mary Kathryn “Sunny” Allbritton

Mary Kathryn “Sunny” Allbritton of Bumpass, Va. passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, in her home.

Sunny was born May 18, 1936, in Richmond, Va. to S. Frank and Elizabeth Ross Spencer. She was the beloved baby sister to Shirley. Sunny graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1954 and entered the workforce. At 26, she met her soulmate, Orville (Buck) Allbritton and they married nine months later. Both enjoyed careers in Richmond until retirement. Throughout her adulthood Sunny was an avid bookworm and quilter, leaving behind numerous beautiful pieces.

The last of her immediate family, Sunny leaves behind a special niece, Liz Houghton of Houston, TX; and numerous loving cousins and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Buckner VA. Interment will follow on site.

Jo Ann Johns

Mrs. Jo Ann Johns, age 86 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

Born Tuesday, July 16, 1935 in Tannehill, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle Lee Jordan James and Jimmie Ray James; husband, J. J. Johns; and son-in-law, Mike Cockerham.

Mrs. Johns was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she served as Postmaster at Joyce, Louisiana. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with crocheting, gardening, and reading. Mrs. Johns was also an avid cookbook and butter dish collector as well as a regular patron at Embers Restaurant.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, David Johns (Anna), George “Tony” Johns (Lori), and Mark Johns (Velma); daughters, Alpha Boyett (Toby), Becky Cockerham, and Gayla Little (Jamie); 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; sister, Naomi Hall (Lyman); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

John E. Creel

John E. Creel passed from this life on Monday, July 18, 2022, while in Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in West Monroe, Louisiana. John was 71 years old.

After graduating from Sikes High School, John began his work career with his brother, Bobby Creel Electric, and later ventured to Houston, Texas where he found employment as apartment maintenance supervisor, a position he held for several years. Having these years of experience, and a desire to be closer to family, John returned to Winnfield where the job as HVAC Instructor at Winn Correctional Center was offered him, later being promoted to maintenance where he worked until retirement after 23 years.

John was mechanically talented and spent much of his spare time using his skills repairing and restoring various appliances for family and friends. He could “fix” just about anything.

Mr. Joshua Wayne Feirn, age 24 of Goldonna, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Born Monday, June 1, 1998 in Minden, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patricia Collins.

Josh was a welder at Six C Fabrication and enjoyed helping others. He loved hanging out with all of his friends everyday when he got off work. Josh loved the outdoors, especially during duck and turkey season. If you knew Josh, you know he always made someone smile and never wanted to see anyone sad. He loved his wife and daughter more than anything in this world. We are heartbroken, but we know he will be watching over his friends and family.

Bevelyn Lynn Vines

Mr. Bevelyn Lynn Vines, age 79 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022.

Born Thursday, September 17, 1942 in Winn Parish, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Lasyone Vines and L. E. Vines; and siblings, Jerry Vines, Sammie Fowler, Loyd Vines, Patsy Hemphill, and Barron Vines.

Mr. Vines graduated Dodson High School in 1960. Following high school he graduated Ouachita Vo-Tech after four years in electrical engineering. Mr. Vines was in business for many years. He enjoyed reading.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Darlene Vines, son, Benny Vines; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Southern Funeral Home, from 12:00 PM until time of services.

Richard Wayne Skains

Richard Wayne Skains

Richard Wayne Skains was born Saturday, July 4,1925 and died on July 6, 2022, at the age of 97 years and two days in Winnfield. He gave his life to the Lord in June 1938 at a tent Revival and continued to serve the Lord his entire life. He was a lifelong member of East Winnfield Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon February 7,1960 and served until his death. He never said no when asked to do anything for the Lord.

He was a WWII Veteran serving in England, France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. He joined the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1949 in Winnfield and worked up to Chief Warrant Officer until retiring in 1980 after 37 years. After retiring, he worked at Humana Hospital in Winnfield as Human Resource Director and then at 8th Judicial Court as a bailiff.

Mrs. Elaine P. Riley, age 70 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Elaine was born on September 23, 1951, in Texas City, Texas. After spending much of her youth in Texas City, she moved to Winnfield, LA where she met and married Rayford and started a family. She worked at various places throughout her career, including Bank of Winnfield and served as Winnfield City Clerk under Mayor BR Audirsch. The last several years, she worked at Winn Community Health Center. Her favorite and most cherished role was that of “Danny” to her five grandchildren, who she loved more than life itself.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur “Cotton” and Eleanor Prescott, sister Annette Cook and her husband Ray, sister Jean Nesmith and her husband Larry.

Sarah Lynn King Jones

Sarah Lynn King Jones, age 72 of West Monroe, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.

Born Wednesday, February 22, 1950 in Knoxville, Tennessee, she was preceded in death by her father Carven Buddy King and mother Sarah Olline Crain King, brother William Carven “Billy” King and her grandparents William Albert Crain and Ora Leona Simmons Crain.

Mrs. Jones will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Danny L. Jones, sons David E. Jones (Sherry) and Mason L. Jones (Cynthia), grandsons Ryan, Austin, Reed and Cole, and nieces and nephews Buddy King (Christy), Caleb King and Christie Cotton (Tommy).

Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Cypress Creek Cemetery with Rev. Robert Leach officiating. Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
