“A Cajun Night Before Christmas”

Winnfield City Hall has decked their hall with a festive window display, encompassing the theme of “A Cajun Night Before Christmas.” Based on the famous 1992 children’s book by Louisiana author James Rice, the elaborate display is decorated with traditional Christmas icons and undercut with some recognizable “lagniappe.”

Winn student to perform at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

MaKayla Shelton, a student at Winfield Senior High School, has been selected to participate in the 2013 Macy’s Great American Marching Band as one of the select number of students from Louisiana. The Band is celebrating the 87th anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and will take an honor position in the parade on November 28, 2013. Students were selected based on their musical ability and past achievements. The opportunity was open to students from over 14,000 high schools across the United States.

WPS celebrates Thanksgiving

Winnfield Primary School allowed for some pre-Thanksgiving family time when parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles were invited to a special meal on Nov. 21. A traditional southern Thanksgiving Day lunch of chicken and dressing, with all of the trimmings, was served.

The Winnfield Kiwanis Club has announced that the annual Downtown Christmas Parade will be held on Friday, December 6 at 6:00 p.m.

Vance McAllister and Neil Riser competed in a head-tohead showdown for Winn Parish votes on Saturday. McAllister ended up winning both the parish and the district’s vote, but it was a closer race in Winn Parish than it was in the rest of the district.

Despite threat of rain, Fall Festival off without a hitch

Fortune smiled on trick-ortreaters in Winn Parish on Halloween as two days of stormy weather gave way to sunshine about 30 minutes before the Downtown Fall Festival was slated to begin. Trick-or-treaters donned rain boots underneath their costumes to combat puddles, but that was a far cry from a weather front that threatened the event all together.

The Winnfield Tigers clenched another win in District play this week, taking down Oak Grove 22-8. Coach Andy Pyles congratulated his team as they rose to the occasion against their toughest opponent yet.

Open House set for Nov. 14

The Winnfield Merchants Alliance’s annual Christmas Open House is just a week away: Thursday, November 14, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The spirit of Christmas will be in the air as shoppers listen to Christmas music and stroll from store to store under festive lights strung across the streets. Merchants will be adding lots of new items between now and then, so check out what’s new! Shop your local merchants for great deals. Snack, shop and visit with old friends while making new ones.
