Sunday morning, August 23rd, Bro. Glenn Jones led us in singing favorite hymns: Rock of Ages, Sweet Hour of Prayer, Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus, and It Is Well With My Soul. We sang Happy Anniversary to Stacy and Frances Johnson. Bro. Jimmy Yokum brought the message from 1 Corinthians 15 entitled The Four Square Gospel. The Gospel contains four truths by which every definition of the gospel must be measured: Christ’s death, burial, and Resurrection as well as the testimony of the witnesses to the Resurrection. Jesus loves us so much that He came to earth to save us from our sins. He took the penalty of the sins of all the world upon Himself on the cross so that we could live with Him eternally. If we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and repent of our sins, we will go to be with Him forever when we die. The minute we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters into our hearts and guides us to live as God would have us live.

The weekend ahead has been set aside in the United States and Canada, to honor the gifts and obligations of work. Labor Day has been celebrated since the late nineteenth century to acknowledge people whose labor and loyalty in the marketplace are not recognized from day to day.

Sunday morning Gary Busby sang “When I See Jesus Coming After Me” for special music. Bro. Mitchell’s message was from Joshua 1. We are to be strong in the Lord. Our foundation is in the Lord. We have an enemy the devil personally and as a church. We are to stand firm and stay dependent on God. Put our faith and trust in the Lord. Don’t be afraid, nor dismayed. The world promotes fear but God is able and he is in control. We are to be aware and alert and on guard. Stay connected to God by being in the word and praying. We are not alone. God is with us. He has plans for us. We are to put our trust in God. Put on the full armor of God every day so we can withstand the devil. God is our helper.

After an inspiring song service, Toni McAllister and Liz McManus blessed the worship service by singing “Come, Jesus, Come”. Bro. Bruce felt led to use John 14 as the text for Sunday’s morning message. We heard that “the Lord’s promise to return happens soon.” What a day that will be! There are over 300 references in the New Testament for Christ’s imminent return. Three points of conversion were shared:(1) The Moment of conversion (Roman 3) when Jesus comes to abide in the heart as your savior, helper, and redeemer; (2) Time of Worship (“”Where two or more are gathered, I will be in their midst.”); and (3) He’ll return and come to us in victory— with a shout and the trump of the archangel. In heaven, we will experience life as it was promised.

The public is invited to attend The Crafty Cafe 2026 on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 8 am until 2pm at the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church located at 500 South Cooper Ave. in Jonesboro.

The Crafty Cafe is a fundraiser for local missions presented by the Jackson Women’s Missionary Union in the Jonesboro area.

For sale items will include: Handcrafted items, Collectibles, Baked Goods, Frozen casseroles, Jellies and other canned items.

In addition there will be coffee and beignets available along with gumbo and soup for lunch.
