Kids World Whipping Up Healthy Dishes

Shannan Chevallier of the LSU AgCenter and her daughter, Gracelyn Chevallier, a 4-H junior leader, partnered this summer with Kids World to host “Kids in the Kitchen” cooking classes. There were 30-35 students who participated in this fun event. Kids were introduced to the tools and rules we use in the kitchen and the role that each of them play in order to prepare a delicious dish. Each day, the kids were broken into small groups where they were given a recipe to prepare. Upon completing our dishes, we discussed what food groups we were partaking of from “My Plate”. We then determined if our meal was balanced.

The American Red Cross were our guest speakers for Thursday. They talked to the students about the importance of having a plan of action in place in case of disaster.
