James Ernest Shows

After a long illness, James Ernest Shows, age 80 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at his residence with his family at his side. Mr. Shows retired from Moreau Construction Co. where he worked until he was no longer physically able. He was a hard worker and even after a full day’s work as a carpenter still returned home to work on his farm. He started farming as a young boy plowing the fields before school. He enjoyed provid- ing fresh vegetables for his family and others. He grew sugar cane to make his own syrup. He also had a real passion for fishing, but he will always be remembered for giving everyone nicknames. Mr. Shows is the son of the late Albert Ernest Shows and the late Emma Lee Franklin Shows. He was also preceded in death by a son James Dalton Shows, and a sister Dorothy Lee Shows Hines. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years Goldie Wise Shows, children Michael Shows, Fae Sanders, Sandy Jones, Tonya Fletcher, Darren Shows, Nancy Hyde, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Mary Jane Wilkinson, of Ruston and Julia McLain of Montgomery. Funeral services for Mr. Shows were held Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Mars Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Dick and Bro. Ty James officiating. Interment followed in the Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Pallbearers were Gregory Jones, Dustin Sanders, Michael Shows, Ryan Shows, Shawn Shows, Lucas Dunn, and honorary pallbearer Eason Page.
