Rev. Steven Smithson speaks to Kiwanis Club

Kiwanian Joe Evans (pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church) introduced his guests Mrs. Evie Sue Jones and Mrs. Mary Ann Roberts. He invited them to the meeting to hear guest speaker Rev. Steven Smithson (pastor of First Baptist Church) speak abouthis mission trips to Haiti. Rev. Smithson also brought Glen Austin, who went on the mission trip, to share some of his experience.

Rev. Smithson shared that Haiti is rife with corruption, political overthrows, etc. which results in immense poverty. He shared that when you enter a third world country there is a smell, taste and sight that gives you a very real sense of poverty. Haiti is on an island. Half of the island is the Dominican Republic which is very upscale and where people go for vacations. The other half is Haiti which is very poverty stricken.
