Uncle Earl’s Hog Dog Trials began in 1994. Fittingly, the event was named for the three time Louisiana Governor “Uncle” Earl Long who was a beloved native of Winn Parish and an avid stockman and boar hunter. The event is held each year in the third weekend of March here in Winn Parish at the Winn Parish Fair Grounds. It involves boars, and various breeds of bay dogs, including Catahoula Leopard Dogs, Blackmouth Cur, and others.
Currently, the contractor for this event is Jake Loaicano of Orange, Texas, who began serving in 2018. Jake is passionate about promoting this event and continues to share that it is not only a time for family and friends to gather but also produces great revenue for Winnfield with hunters arriving from all over the country to participate.
