James C. Mercer

Jeremy Taylor (Tannehill), Christy Taylor (Moss Bluff), Jordan Mercer (Ouray, CO), Kaitlyn Mercer (Arcadia), Aimee Shea (Ouray, CO), Jamie Mercer (Winnfield), and Chad Mercer (Houston). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Shiloh, CJ, Tony, Jade, Alexis, and Stoney, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
James worked for 40 years at Atmos Energy as an operations manager. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield, a teacher of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School class, and a member of the men’s Prayer Breakfast. He also enjoyed being a member of the daily breakfast crew at The Country Girl, where they solved all of the world’s problems. He would then go to his James C. Mercer, born on August 25, 1947, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 21, 2024, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, James and Johnnie Mercer; brother, Danny Mercer; mother-in-law, Maltha Kelly Kyle; and sister-in-laws, Annette Carpenter and Carolyn Albritton.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary K. Mercer; sister-inlaws, Sara Mercer and Frankie Stewart; brother-in-law, Jack Albritton; children, “High Dive” camp house with his faithful sidekick, Jazz, where he has raised cows, donkeys, sheep, rabbits, and chickens.
Visitation was held at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 24 and again from 10:0011:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 25. Service was held at Southern Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, at 11:00 A.M. followed by burial at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield.
Pallbearers included: Delane Crain, Dr. Bill Gaddis, Colvin Garrett, Barry Howard, Brent Hubbard, and Randy Melton.
