Mr. Rodney Kent Alderman of Winnfield, Louisiana passed from this life on December 23, 2023 at the age of 73 years. He was born on June 7, 1950 to the union of Cecil Curtis and Helen Marie Kelly Alderman, affectionately known as “Pete”.

Mr. Rodney was preceded in death by his loving parents, Cecil Curtis and Helen Marie Kelly Alderman; sister, Barbara Alderman; nephew, Michael Lindsey.

Mr. Rodney was a native of Winnfield and spent the entirety of his life at his family home there. He worked in the area for many years in various lumber and plywood plants. He was an avid sportsman and spent many Friday nights watching the Winnfield “Tigers” play football. The Pittsburg Steelers was his favorite professional football team, and LSU his favorite college team. He will be remembered for his uncanny predictions of football scores, and his name often listed in the newspaper as the winner (or second place) of the football pool.

Unlike most, Rodney kept a daily diary (journal) of his life since the age of 13. Perhaps his family will now be able to peer into the thoughts of this man of few words. He was also a great lover of animals and always had a pet or two or four, whether a stray cat or a family dog.

His greatest joy in life was being a father and grandfather, and he loved to play card games or board games like Monopoly for hours on end. He also enjoyed hiking out at the Gum Springs area and swimming at Lake Saline. He also took many vacations & road-trips throughout his life and loved to reminisce about his adventures.

An avid television enthusiast, he had his favorite programs and made sure he was prepared with a coke while watching favorite shows like “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead” or other thriller and/or comedy programs as well as a variety of movies, such as Caddyshack.

Rodney had an uncanny knack for remembering dates and events that most had long forgotten, and he could recall an old cousin’s birthdate at a simple mention of their name. He had a few good friends, and the ones who knew him well understood his ways. He enjoyed going to the City Barber Shop to chat with friends who came in for a haircut.

Earlier in his life he attended Laurel Heights Baptist Church regularly for many years; later, he went to South Winnfield Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held on Friday, December 29, 2023 in the Garden of Memories in Winnfield, LA under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
