Joe Butler Jordan

Joe Butler Jordan (Joe B. or Butler) was born in Winn Parish on March 25, 1933 to Joseph H. and Ella Jordan (nee Crawford). Joe B. was the youngest of seven children and a lifelong resident of the Jordan Hill Community.

Joe B. married Mattie Louise Young in December, 1957, and was a generous and loving father to two sons, Danny Jeffrey Jordan (deceased), and Walter Glen Jordan of Pelsor, Arkansas. After Mattie’s death in 1998, Joe B. married Yvonne Varnell Cockerham in 2001, and became stepfather to John “Burt” Cockerham.

Joe B. was a bricklayer by trade and his work can be seen throughout central Louisiana. He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church and served on the church board. He also taught Sunday School and Training Union for over 50 years.

Joe B. was a loyal member of Georgetown Lodge #298 F & AM for over 50 years. During that time, he served as Master of the Lodge and Lodge Secretary. Joe B. was also a member of the Scottish Rite for over 50 years and a Royal Arch Mason of the York Rite for 25 years. Joe B. conducted Masonic funerals for

brethren and participated in the annual “Rose on the Altar” play. In 2001 he received the honor of becoming a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and was Master of the Lodge of Kodosh.

Joe B. is preceeded in death by his six siblings, Clarence Jordan, Flora Capps, Walter Jordan, Lillie Mae Coburn, Laura O’Neal “Bunchie”, and Maxine McCartney. He is survived by his son, Walter Glen Jordan and wife Karen, wife, Yvonne Varnell Cockerham Jordan, step-son, Burt Cockerham and wife Theresa, loving niece Patsy Spangler and husband Kenneth, and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 7, 2023 at Jordan Hill Cemetery with Rev. Gene Chelette officiating, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
