John E. Creel

John E. Creel

John E. Creel passed from this life on Monday, July 18, 2022, while in Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in West Monroe, Louisiana. John was 71 years old.

After graduating from Sikes High School, John began his work career with his brother, Bobby Creel Electric, and later ventured to Houston, Texas where he found employment as apartment maintenance supervisor, a position he held for several years. Having these years of experience, and a desire to be closer to family, John returned to Winnfield where the job as HVAC Instructor at Winn Correctional Center was offered him, later being promoted to maintenance where he worked until retirement after 23 years.

John was mechanically talented and spent much of his spare time using his skills repairing and restoring various appliances for family and friends. He could “fix” just about anything.

John was born the fifth child of Rev. J.C. and Audrey Mae Gorham Creel of Dodson, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gloria Ann Ketchum, and niece, Nina Lynn Creel.

He will be lovingly remembered by his caregiver and friend, Diana Robertson of Joyce, Louisiana; and by his two brothers, Bobby D. Creel (Ella), of Winnfield and Jerald C. Creel (Janis), of Monroe, Louisiana. He is also survived by his sister, Corene Haygood (Sammy), of Liberty, Mississippi; and we must not forget his beloved canine babies, which he spoiled as his children. John was known to “take in” every stray dog and puppy dumped out on J. Creel Road!

John loved his motorcycles and tractor just as every grown up boy loves his grown up toys.

One of his favorite pleasures was to listen to his music, especially music by his favorite guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and of course Willie and Alan ran a close race for being John’s all-time favorite country artist.

A Funeral Service celebrating John’s life was held Friday, July 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home. Officiating over the service was a personal friend of John’s brother, Jerald, lay-minister, Bro. Johnny Legg, of Sterlington, Louisiana. He shared his awesome experience of leading John to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior, while a patient in a Monroe hospital a few years ago. John’s testimony of faith brings his family and friends much peace and joy.

Visitation for friends was held at Southern Funeral Home on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of services. Interment followed in the Old Union Cemetery in the Creel family plot.

The family expresses much gratitude for every prayer and acts of kindness shown during this time.
