Richard Wayne Skains

Richard Wayne Skains was born Saturday, July 4,1925 and died on July 6, 2022, at the age of 97 years and two days in Winnfield. He gave his life to the Lord in June 1938 at a tent Revival and continued to serve the Lord his entire life. He was a lifelong member of East Winnfield Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon February 7,1960 and served until his death. He never said no when asked to do anything for the Lord.

He was a WWII Veteran serving in England, France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. He joined the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1949 in Winnfield and worked up to Chief Warrant Officer until retiring in 1980 after 37 years. After retiring, he worked at Humana Hospital in Winnfield as Human Resource Director and then at 8th Judicial Court as a bailiff.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Wardell McCarty Skains; his parents, Edward Howard Skains and Ruth Hogan Skains; his brother, Howard Skains; and his sister, Mary Nell Skains Spikes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn Addington Skains; children, Lamar Skains (Leah), Terry Skains (Susan), Mark Skains (Liz) and Janna Gillespie (Travis); 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne loved to fish, farm, garden, hunt and serve in his church. He was an example to everyone that knew him in his love for the Lord and Church. In his own words, “He had a full and wonderful life.”

Family received friends on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at East Winnfield Baptist Church from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

Funeral service was held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 11, 2022 at East Winnfield Baptist Church with Reverends Jeff Shows and Dick DeBusk officiating. Interment followed at the Garden of Memories, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers next to the military were Sidney Walton, Rusty Thompson, Dennis Skains, Michael Etheridge, MG Perry, Travis Gillespie, Teddy Garner, Donnie Maxey, Rusty Barton, Delane Crain, Dorman Guilliams and Will Schuler.
