James Cornelius “Cornie” Parker

James Cornelius “Cornie” Parker passed from this life of Friday, April 29, 2022 at his residence. He was born to the union of Lawrence and Ethel Erskins Parker of Sikes, Louisiana on March 29, 1936. Cornie, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Sikes High School where he met his future bride Margie Hatten. They were married on November 1955, and have been married for 66 years.

Cornie worked several different jobs over the years including his final job with the Winn Parish Police Jury as a heavy equipment operator upon his retirement. He loved working outside and over the years enjoyed working in his vegetable gardens.

His greatest passion was singing gospel music. He was in a quartet at New Prospect Baptist Church. After moving back to Sikes he sang with several different people at the nursing homes which he loved doing. He loved eating ice cream and peanuts, which he ate for supper or a snack every night.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years Margie Hatten Parker; one son Gary Parker (Denise); daughters Brenda Parker Byington (husband Fred), and Sandra Parker Rachal (husband Dana); grandchildren Jeremy Brossette (wife Katie), Mitch Parker, Nola Parker Day (husband Josh), Great-Grandchildren Brayden, Isabella, and Olivia Brossette, and Daniel Medine; extended grandchildren / great-grandchildren Rufus and Bailey Jones, Emily Parker, Kori Frost, Elizabeth Colton, Amelia Pfiefer, Jeremy, Erin, Grayson and Whitleigh Edwards and Torri Mercer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ethel Erskins Parker.

The family received friends at Friendship Baptist Church of Sikes, Louisiana on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 9:00AM until 11:00AM. Graveside services followed in the church cemetery at 11:00AM with Rev. Mike Green officiating. Services and interment were under the direction of Southern Funeral Homes, Winnfield.
