Johnny Garner, age 71 of Winnfield, Louisiana, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 6, 2022 after a lengthy time of declining health.

Born in Winnfield, Louisiana on June 14, 1950, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Garner and Mary Ethel Griffith, two brothers Robert”Bud” Garner, Paul Garner, and two sisters Janice Marie Hasselle and Carolyn “KaKa” Bedgood.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Garner; son Brandon Garner (Shellye) of Georgetown, LA; daughter Laurie Hennessy (Tobin) of Alexandria, LA; granddaughters Kaylee Garner and Alaina Hennessy; grandsons Tyler Garner, Logan Hennessy, and L T Hennessy. Sisters Emily Ann Gibson (Weylin) of Oakdale, LA and Paula Lucas. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He will be greatly missed but we will cherish the wonderful memories.

Johnny spent his early years working in the forest industry as a logger and a contract truck driver. He had a passion for white perch fishing. He was very content fishing and boat riding Saline Lake. White perch was provided for a lot of family Sunday dinners. Johnny loved fishing with the grandkids and he considered it a great blessing to be with each grandchild as they caught their first fish. He also had a love for music and worshiped his Lord and Savior with his “by ear” piano talent at the United Baptist Church. He enjoyed studying God’s word and talking about the Bible.

The family received friends on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at United Baptist Church, from 5 pm until 10 pm, and again on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the church from 9:00 am until time of services.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the United Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Jones and Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in Jordan Hill Cemetery, in Winnfield, Jordan Hill Community.

Serving the family as pallbearers were Waymon Clark, Brandon Garner, Tyler Garner, Darrell Grant, LeeRoy Jones, and Ricky Wilder.
