Rosella Mason Wells
Rosella Mason Wells, 82, of Natchitoches, LA went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 after a long battle with an illness.
She was born and raised in Jefferson City, MO on November 26, 1939 where she lived most of her life before moving to Louisiana in 2006. She worked at Charles E. Still Hospital for 20 years as a secretary. She was known as “Sug” to her family and friends. This nickname was given to her as a child by one of her brothers. She earned this name because she was as sweet as sugar and later it was shortened to “Sug”. She was one of the sweetest, kindest, caring and loving people anyone could know. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed spending time with them. Family was her passion and she was very proud of her family. She always gave of herself and made sacrifices to help others in need. She always thought of others first and had a genuine heart of giving. She loved to travel and spend time at the lake. She loved the holidays and making Monster Cookies for Christmas to give to family. Each year she picked out special Hallmark Christmas ornaments for her kids and grandkids which became a favorite tradition. She was a faithful member of her church where she could often be found spending time at the local nursing home, Autumn Leaves Nursing and Rehab, where she helped at parties, bingo and different activities. She continued to volunteer until 2020 when visitation stopped due to Covid and unfortunately her health started to decline. She loved her residents. She was always so willing to help those in need. She loved the staff and also made special bonds with some family members. She was named the Louisiana Nursing Home Volunteer of the Year in 2012 which she was truly humbled and honored by.
She loved to play cards such as Hands and Foot, Rack-o and the game Sorry with her loved ones. She could be very competitive and showed no mercy when trying to win. She loved the Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl Parties. She loved to have fun, smile and laugh. She had a great sense of humor and she was selfless. She loved to hug others and she had a zest for life She loved to travel and she loved living at the lake. She was true to herself and her beliefs. She was an animal lover and loved her special dog, Little Bit and her cat, Callie who both gave her great comfort. She was the best mother a child could ask for and she cherished this role all her life. She had morals, character and a strong will. She was a fighter and did not give up easily. She relied on her faith and trusted God. She was a true example of what the Lord intended for mothers to be. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. Heaven gained a precious angel and the world lost a very kind and caring soul. Heaven just got a little sweeter. Her legacy will continue to live on.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas R. Mason and Marie Stetzembach Mason of Jefferson City, MO; siblings, Virginia DeGroat of Wausaukee, WI, Marjorie Scheperle and Delores Renick both of Jefferson City, MO, Thomas Mason of St. Louis, MO and Henry V. Mason of Hampton, VA.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Donald L. Wells of Natchitoches, LA; son, Thomas L. Wells and wife Jody of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Sandi Teal and husband Todd of Atlanta, LA. She has 6 precious grandchildren whom she loved greatly, Brittany and Shane Eberspacher, Jordan and Gena Wells all of Kansas City, MO, Jackson and Edward Teal of Atlanta, LA; great-grandchildren, Leo Joseph Wells of Kansas City and another great grandchild due this summer. She is also survived by a very special niece and nephew who she considered her own, Susie and Larry Hannah of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Becky Mason of Hampton, VA.
A memorial service was held at 10 am on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Rev. Ford Pickering presiding. At a later date she will be taken home to Jefferson City, MO where she will be laid to rest in the Hawthorne Cemetery.
The family wished to thank Legacy Hospice for exceptional care, and especially her nurse, Dan Dupree, who helped care for her during this difficult time. Also, a special thanks to Rev. Ford for regular visits, compassion, and loving prayers. To Mrs. Jessica, N.P., who lovingly helped mom throughout her illness. And a very special thanks to all who kept her and our family in their prayers. But mostly, thank you to our dad who faithfully took care of mom during her illness throughout these years. You are our true hero.
In lieu of flowers it was her wish that donations be made to the Humane Society of Winnfield or the Winnfield Animal Shelter.
