Memorial services for Jessie Nell Grigg will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Winnfield, Louisiana with Dr. Jerry Pipes officiating.

Jessie Nell, 91 of Winnfield, passed from this life on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Ridgecrest Community Care Center in West Monroe, Louisiana. Mrs.Grigg was born October 16, 1930 in Red River Parish, Louisiana and graduated from Hall Summit High School in 1947. She continued her studies at Louisiana Tech, where she met her future husband Edward Jackson Grigg, from Bienville, Louisiana. One daughter and two sons were born to this union.

The early years of the Griggs’ marriage were spent in Bernice, Louisiana where Mrs. Grigg served as high school librarian and English teacher. After Mr. Grigg completed as B.S. degree in forestry at Louisiana Tech, the couple moved to Winnfield, Louisiana where both were employed.

For thirty-two years Mrs. Grigg taught speech and English at Winnfield High School and Winnfield Senior High School. Mrs. Griggs’ educational background included a B.S. degree from Louisiana Tech, an M.A. degree from LSU, and a “Plus Thirty” from various colleges and universities.

The nature of the elective speech curriculum inspired Mrs. Grigg to promote excellence and competition. She encouraged students to do their best in the classroom in the schools’ radio studio, on the stage and at speech tournaments and festivals. A popular community entertainment was TIGER FOLLIES, the annual spring talent show written and produced by speech students.

Mrs. Grigg was involved in several organizations and memberships over the years. Leadership and hospitality were two of her special gifts. At the time of her death, she had been an active member of First Baptist Church for 68 years. Upon retirement, Mrs. Grigg expanded her talents of sewing and cooking to focus on her special interests of traveling and attending athletic contests of her children and grand children. She enjoyed theater, movies, and television. A favorite pastime with family and friends included multiple table games, especially Rook and Bridge.

Mrs. Grigg was preceded in death by Edward J. Grigg, her husband of fifty-nine years; a son, Jack Norwood “Woody” Grigg; her parents, Jesse Martin Wimberly and Carrie Woodard Wimberly; sisters Jewel Wimberly Haydn, and Emmadel Wimberly Anastasio; one niece, Ann Marie Anastasio.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Ginger Grigg Peterson and husband Otis of West Monroe, Louisiana; her son Jess Wimberly Grigg and wife Sherry of LaGrange, Kentucky, two grandsons Daniel Edward Peterson and wife Chelsea of Prosper, Texas; Michael Otis Peterson and wife Taylor of Ruston, Louisiana; granddaughter Rachel Nicole Grigg of LaGrange, Kentucky; greatgranddaughters Marie Sawyer Peterson, Sadie Larke Peterson, Stella Ruth Peterson, and great-grandson Jack Taylor Peterson.

Honorary pallbearers are First Baptist Church deacons, Faith Sunday School Class, and Bridge Friends.
