Johnny Ray Fannin

Mr. Johnny Ray Fannin, age 69 of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away August 16, 2021 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

Johnny was born in Winnfield, LA and graduated Winnfield Senior High School in 1969. Johnny enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard after graduation and attended Northwestern State University where he earned a bachelors degree in business. During college, he worked at the A&P in Winnfield and continued to work for A&P for over 20 years before retiring. After retiring from A&P, Johnny went to work for Walmart where he has worked for the past 22 years. After helping with the opening of the Winnfield Supercenter, Johnny returned to management and served as an assistant manager for the Ruston Walmart until stepping down to return to the Winnfield Walmart to work in the sporting goods department. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard and riding his tractor. He was a member of East Winnfield Baptist Church.

Mr. Fannin is the son of the late John Thomas Fannin and the late Molly Jean Ray Fannin.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 16 years Betty Jo Roberts Fannin, children Christy Bates (Will), Jason Mercer (Martha), Melissa Mercer, Joseph Mercer (Brittany), grandchildren Chase, Madison, Lake, Marisa, Jacob, Jonah, Clay, Machaela, Sarrah, Carlie, Jamie, and Liam, and one great grandson William Cooper. He is also survived by his siblings Dorothy McGlothlin, Kelly R. Fannin, and James “Jim” Fannin (Kitty) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Fannin were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, 19, 2021 at East Winnfield Baptist Church in Joyce with Reverends Jason Mercer and Danny Keyes officiating. Interment followed in the Cypress Creek Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Friends visited with the family at the church on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until time of services.

Serving the family as pallbearers were Chase Bates, Lake Bates, Jacob Mercer, K. J. Evans, Jonah Chandler, Clay Chandler and Jamie Mercer. Rayford Riley was an honorary pallbearer.
