Free Meals Made Available to All Winn Students

The days of sending lunch money to school with your children have come to an end in Winn Parish. Beginning this school year, all students who are enrolled in a Winn Parish school will be eligible for free breakfast and lunch, thanks to a new program made available by the USDA.

The USDA’s Community Eligibility Program (CEP) allows for school districts in high poverty areas to serve free meals to all students, without the burden of collecting household applications. This means that parents in Winn will no longer have to fill out an application to determine eligibility for meal services in the school system. There are certain stipulations that accompany this program, however.
