The Louisiana State Legislature is poised to pass a bill to increase parish sheriff’s salary statewide. This will set the maximum a sheriff may be paid. It does not apply to a minimum amount for parishes without funding.

“Sheriff’s are paid from local funds and when funds are not there, they should not get more than a parish can pay,” said sheriff-elect Cranford Jordan.

“I campaigned on lowering the sheriff’s pay and I will do that,” he said.

He further stated he would do everything that is necessary to get Winn Parish sheriff’s office budget balanced.

Jordan also announced this week the possible purchase of new vehicles for the sheriff’s department at a low price of $3,000 each through a neighboring parish.
